5 Mistakes That Ruin Your Diwali Toran & Bandhanvar Shopping

October 06, 2026 · By Celebration Kraft
Diwali 2026

Every Diwali, the same five mistakes show up on main-door shopping lists — usually spotted only a day or two before the festival, when there's no time left to fix them. Here's what to check before you order a toran or bandhanvar, not after.

1Not deciding toran vs bandhanvar first

These look similar in photos but aren't the same product. A toran is a single light strand — easy to put up on every door, window and the puja room. A bandhanvar is a fuller, multi-strand festoon meant as the one statement piece for your main entrance. Picking the wrong one means either an entrance that looks bare, or four doors you can't afford to decorate the same way.

2Not measuring the door width

Most toran designs are built for a standard door, but bandhanvars are wider and need more clearance on either side to hang properly. Ordering without measuring is the most common reason a bandhanvar arrives looking bunched up or too narrow for the entrance it was meant for.

3Ignoring whether it'll face sun, rain or wind

A toran left on an open balcony or an uncovered main door takes more weather than one hung just inside a covered porch. Delicate paper or unfinished trim fades and frays within days outdoors — check the material is meant for where it's actually going to hang.

4Ordering too close to Diwali

Handcrafted torans and bandhanvars take time to make, and the week before Diwali is when demand — and shipping delays — peak. Ordering at the last minute usually means settling for whatever design is still in stock, not the one you actually wanted for the main door.

5Buying one that won't survive past this Diwali

A toran or bandhanvar is meant to come out again every year, not get replaced each season. Sets with glued (not stitched) trim and loose pom-poms tend to shed or fall apart after a single year in storage — check the stitching before you buy, not after it's already torn.

None of these are hard to avoid — they just need to be checked before checkout, not discovered the evening you're putting up the decor. Every toran and bandhanvar in our Diwali collection is handcrafted with stitched trim, ships pan-India, and is made to be brought out again next year.

Our most-loved picks: Lakshmi Medallion Pom Pom Toran — ₹190 (our most budget-friendly), Welcome Ganesh Tassel Toran — ₹230, Gulab Moti Bandhanvar — ₹1,499, and the premium Shreenathji & Gau Bandhanvar — ₹2,799.
