The Raksha Bandhan ritual

The tilak comes first.

Before the Rakhi is tied, the didi applies the tilak — a dot of kumkum on her brother's forehead, a grain of chawal pressed gently above it. These two simple things carry the entire weight of the ritual.

Place the diya, roli, chawal, rakhi and mithai on a decorative thali

Dip your ring finger in roli, make a dot on your brother's forehead. Press a grain of chawal above it.

Tie the Rakhi

Wrap the crystal rakhi around his right wrist. Say the prayer.
